The African bush has a sky like I've never seen before. It stretches up and over the whole place like God accidentally dropped a huge blue mixing bowl on us. I never thought the sky could make me feel slightly claustrophobic, but it has here. It's so all-encompassing, so huge, that I feel like we're trapped, smothered by an azure blanket which has then been firmly tucked under the Drakensberg mountains in the distance. And this is coming from someone who grew up in the flattest region of the United States.
It's certainly awe-inspiring, however, especially at my favorite time of day, dusk, when the overwhelming, relentless blue fades to a hazy yellow, eventually leaving us with a wonderfully bizarre orange finale. I've taken so many sunset pictures, in fact, I could probably make a cheap coffee-table book.
